Hello MCIT guys,
As discussed in class today, there’s certain language used in the business world. Today we discussed some of the meetings language.
Now your task is to listen to this part of a meeting in which the members take a decision.
- While listening, write down some of the new expressions used for voting in meetings. Add these to the ‘Useful Language’ section on page 11 of your book.
- After you listen, I want you to discuss the two ways of voting they talk about and what you think of each.

We use voting when we want to make a decision. To decide as a group.
*There is two ways of voting:
The first: That when we vote we would write something on a piece of paper or make a selection. It can be called (private vote).
The second: That when we vote we rise our hands “Have a show of hands” and that’s the public.
The first is more sensitive. You may be a little scare to show your opinion. You worried about what people was think. But the second is more public. You just raise your hand to choose what you prefer.
And I think we need the both ways according to how the situation is. Some times we scare to show our opinion to other people. And sometimes we don’t care about this. May be your opinion will not against with there opinion may be it just be choose.
**The new expressions used for voting in meetings:
-Let me see how many people in the room are voting for these.
-Let’s have a show of hands.
-Let’s take a vote.
-To take a vote.
-I can vote for…….
-Vote against……

1- whate is the vote ?
…. when you support some one opinion or some one idea , you agree or disagree
2- the vote ways :
- private (take a peice of paper and write our choise)
- show of hands (to show your hand with the opinion you go for )
in my opinion the (private) one is the best because you have all rights to sayed what do you want with out get emaressed from any one or any thing .
*** the new expressions for meeting vote :
- formality : we almost know the vote result but we take with this to make it in the true way
- to put (some thing ) to vote
- to vote …
- to take a vote …
First of all, what is voting?
Voting is to suppose that you support aperson with an Idea or some thing .
Secondly, when the voting is taken?
I think Voting is taken at the last time of the set Agenda .
How to take vote ?
1.Formally: for example to raise hands if you vote for some thing.
2.Informal: to vote by writing some thing down on apiece of paper.
Voting language:
The leader of meeting just say :
“let’s take avote!”
also he / she can say :
“do you want ( this thing) or ( another one )”,
also:
” who is vote for (……….)” also ,
” who is vote against(……….)”
also ,
” all in favor of (…) raise your hand ”
He can also put things on apiece of paper to vote for or against .
Preferable for me:
Informal vote for these reasons:
1. If the meeting room is very big it willnot clear to count raised hands.
2. In order to no one can complain that he didn’t have chance to give his opinion.
3. In critical bussiness decision you may not prefer to raise your hand against the opinion of your boss.

First , I talk What’s a vote ?
Vote when we want to support a person or an idea we give our opinion , we give support for , everyone can stand up and actually say ” This is I want ” . Another meaning when we make a lot of different decision and we can decide as a group.
The two ways of voting is:-
1 – Public Vote :- By rising our hands or showing our hands .This way needs to know how many people in the room are voting for (thing) .
2 – Private Vote :- By writting something down on a piece of paper. This vote is more sensitive because you may be a lot of scare to show your opinion or you worried about what people was think or you have a private vote . It’s no necessary to do this vote specially in a smaller meeting but in a business contects may be your boss has an opinion and you really don’t want to be against there opinion so this vote may protect you from your boss.
Finally , in a vote if everybody votes for the same thing there are a speical word “unanimous”.
Ok lets start with voting expressions :

5- It’s time to vote
6- All in favor (I don’t really know if it was a voting expressions or its away when we take a vote)
Then we have two kinds of voting
1- Public vote
2- Private vote
1- Public vote has many ways when we make it like (raise your hands please – or show of hands) and so..
The public vote seems to be easier, faster and more practical special in small meetings.
2- The only way to take a private vote is by writing down on piece of paper.
The private vote is more sensitive because we may be a little scare to show our opinion or we are worried about what people what think. Also private vote protect you a little from our boss if we re going to vote against him.
So I think I’ll go for (private vote) just for safety

According to the listening i think the vote is not to support some one opinion or some one idea. Becouse in thise case you just sand up and say that’s what i want . But vote mean that when we make a lot of different decision and we can decide as a group.
